Clean the fish fillets and pat them dry with a paper towel.
In a small bowl, mix together turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garlic powder, salt, and lemon juice.
Apply this mixture on both sides of the fish fillets and let them marinate for at least 30 minutes.
In a shallow bowl, mix together cornflour and some salt.
Heat oil for frying in a deep pan or wok over medium-high heat.
Dip each fish fillet in the cornflour mixture and coat it well.
Fry the fish fillets in the hot oil until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides. This should take about 5-6 minutes per side.
Once the fish fillets are cooked, remove them from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
Serve hot with some lemon wedges and your choice of chutney or dipping sauce.
